LINSEED OIL – NATURAL FLUID FOR WOODEN SKIN
Linseed oil is a pure vegetable oil that is extracted from flax or linseed by boiling.
To accelerate the drying process, however, linseed oil varnish is usually used. This linseed oil is mixed with dry substances (siccatives). Linseed oil varnish dries by absorbing oxygen from the air and takes about 24 hours to dry. Dried properly, it is only after 1-2 weeks. Linseed oil sifting penetrates deeply into the wood surface, saturates the wood pores and thus combines to form a protective layer that protects the material from moisture and dirt. Linseed oil varnish lets the wood breathe, so the moisture that has penetrated can evaporate again.
Linseed oil is completely free of additives and contains no solvents. Surfaces oiled with linseed oil varnish bring out the wood grain very vividly – they literally fire up the grain.
Linseed oil varnish is particularly suitable for wood objects that are constantly touched, such as knife handles, musical instruments or cutting boards.
